Cover Mapping Data Model - ArcGIS Pro
Cover mapping is a scientific sampling method for mapping vegetation types. Data about species size and composition and impacts of deer and invasive plant species are collected. Analyzing this data can help with making management decisions by understanding the current health of a particular habitat and how it has changed over time.
The conservancy district conducts monthly cover mapping with the help of trained volunteers. This process is currently done using paper and pencil, and the results are collated and then analyzed after manual entry into a spreadsheet. Because of the amount of data, a geodatabase solution would be far more efficient, making data easier to store and analysis easier to complete.
This project includes a detailed description of types of data being collected and a potential database schema for a new application for cover mapping.
